Day 7 Fruit! Yes, I Have No Bananas...

When I saw that today's photo challenge was fruit, I thought about that old song, "Yes, we have no bananas."

1. There's a fruit store on our street,
It's run by a Greek.
And he keeps good things to eat
But you should hear him speak.
When you ask him anything
He never answers "No."
He just "Yesses" you to death,
And as he takes your dough,
He tells you:
(chorus)
YES! We have no bananas,
We have no bananas today.
We've string beans and HON-ions,
Cab-BAH-ges and scallions
And all kinds of fruit, and say
We have an old fashioned to-MAH-to,
Long Island po-TAH-to,
But YES! We have no bananas.
We have no bananas today.
2. Business got so good with him
He wrote home to say:
"Send me Pete and Nick and Jim,
I need help right away."
When he got them in the store,
There was fun, you bet!
Someone asked for "Sparrow grass,"
And the whole quartet
All answered:

Haven't you ever wondered what the rest of the words were to that song? Now you know!

And here is a picture of some fruit, and yes, I have bananas!

  1. I was confused by your post title until I read the song. I've never heard of it before. You'll have to sing it when I see you next. :)

  3. Oh golly! I remember that song....we used to go around singing it over and over when I was little...and we only knew the one banana verse. I didn't even know there were other words..ha..Thanks for sharing. I really love bananas now..(I eat at least two/day in a smoothie for breakfast) although when I was a kid...I hated them!
