Ahh, Fall

The shoes of summer soon to be replaced by socks and sneakers..
And so it is fall! The long summer drifts away and I count it as long by the things that filled it, by the joys and hardships and busyness that stretched out every moment, but short by the time reflected back now that it has come to an end. I didn't run enough in the glorious sunshine of early morning, I didn't sit back and listen to the sounds of two growing boys riding bikes and bouncing basketballs in the driveway enough, I didn't dig enough in the earth and make my garden flourish, but there is so much I did do. Life is fleeting, life is fast, but there are memories and living that I recorded in my journal and friends were made, and fun was shared and moments are framed in time.Time has transitioned to Fall, and I am ready.
Patrick and his 48 pound pumpkin.

The stew. Officially fall!

I saw a version of this on line and made my own.

A yearly fall decoration that has several real leaves in it.
I discovered how to modge podge fall leaves here. http://gingerbreadsnowflakes.com/node/96 I know, it says snowflakes, but there is a tutorial on how to preserve fall leaves and they are beautiful and they last.

On a final note, here is one of my favorite children's hymns. Seems Fall is the most glorious time to focus on God's magnificent handiwork. Have a blessed Thanksgiving!

 All things bright and beautiful,
All creatures great and small,
All things wise and wonderful:
The Lord God made them all.

Each little flower that opens,
each little bird that sings,
God made their glowing colors,
and made their tiny wings.

The purple-headed mountains,
the river running by,
the sunset and the morning
that brightens up the sky.

The cold wind in the winter,
the pleasant summer sun,
the ripe fruits in the garden:
God made them every one.

God gave us eyes to see them,
and lips that we might tell
how great is God Almighty,
who has made all things well.

  1. Nice to see you blogging again - I hope to do more soon too - once I get this little man on a better 'schedual'!

I love your "give thanks" blocks (?!? are they blocks???) really nice!!! I used to sing that hymn when I was in a children's choir - it was one of my favourites! :D

  2. They are pieces of 2x4 painted. I used to sing this song to your husband and the other kids at night.

  3. I liked that fact that you focused on the activities that you did manage to do this summer instead of "lamenting" on the activities you didn't have time to do. I'm slowly learning that we have to count our blessings each day - even the ones we feel are "trivial."

Your stew looked good, and I liked the "Give Thanks" blocks you made. I'm not that talented, so I'd have to probably buy one if I wanted something like this.

    Blessings to you! :)
