Thaw and then the Snow

The back yard. I thought the swirling white snow was beautiful this morning!

Against the treehouse backdrop, it really stood out.

The last two days have been warm. We thought it would be an early spring. The sun was warm and the snow was quickly melting. Our snow man met his demise...and we walked. Several times a day we wound our way through the subdivisions and wandered through the woods. I poked around my flower beds and began planning my gardens.

I awoke this morning to snow. Swirling cold snow. I went out for my morning walk anyway but it was cold and I was glad to come back inside. It is however, pretty, and it adds to the coziness of our Saturday morning pancakes and tea. I know spring is coming and on days like this, I think it can take its time. For now, I will enjoy the winter.

Happy *heart* day!

Gotta love it! Valentine's from the grandbabes. These will grace my living room for at least a month!

Happy *Heart* Day

Lotsa love in the air!

"For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth on Him shall not perish, but shall have everlasting life." John 3:16

The greatest Valentine ever, came from the hand of our loving heavenly Father who sent us His very best so that we could live with Him forever. What an expression of true love. How willingly we should give of ourselves to others as gratitude.

February's Fickle Weather

Each year there are more mourning doves in our yard. I always leave some seed on the patio for them.

Gotta love these bright blue skies!
I love the sunny days in February. My house plants and those little apple seedlings just soak it up and reward me by getting taller and greener every day. My boys love the sun too. They have dug a lovely maze of snow trails through my yard and usually play quite nicely. Today however, I saw them standing in a snow drift with angry faces. I cracked open the patio door to hear them. They were arguing about who owned the most property in their "village". It was soon resolved but the bad moods lingered. Guess early bed would be good for tonight. They are longing, I think, for warmer weather and their favorite swimming hole. Me too! February is fickle. She tempts us with bright days and then dumps piles of snow on us. We go to bed in anticipation of warmer weather and wake to brutal cold. Sleeting rain and blustery winds give way to quiet blue days that promise spring. Soon it will come. Under the snow, much is going on! Every year it is the same! And I like it like that. I am glad God has put me here in Ontario. The seasons are a wonder.

Canadian Winter, Eh?

Yesterday was cold...and snowy! We had to get the snow blower out several times and the wind threatened to sweep us off our feet. Our bunny was burrowed in a mound of hay and refused to come out. The wind chimes almost blew out of the tree. There were swirly drifts as high as Patrick's head by the back of the house.

A bit of color in a gray world.

Brrrr. If you don't dress warm around here, you pay the price!
This is Canada and it is winter. We should expect it, even welcome it. Its why we live here, right? We don't get up and say, "I wonder if we need to wear shorts or jeans today." We say, "Long johns or not?" We stock up on road salt, we collect mittens, we keep extra canned goods in our cupboards, just in case. We check the weather network faithfully. Every morning we get up and look out the window to see if it snowed in the night. And we complain. Its what we do. But we love it just the same.
